Occupation Watch: 4/10/2018 Executive Order
United States President Donald Trump quietly released an executive order on Tuesday deceptively named “Reducing Poverty in America by Promoting Opportunity and Economic Mobility”; its words are as polished as an iliili stone, however its contents are littered with empty rhetoric, vague assertions, and Dickensian logic.
Below are just a few highlights we noticed. As Hawaii is occupied by the U.S. many of our Citizens have suffered direly through land theft, business intimidation, and predatory wage practices. It is no surprise many of our Citizens are struggling to make ends meet; some are on these assistance programs, but most who need assistance don’t qualify because the United States frequently uses metrics that either don’t apply or actively ignore Hawaii’s circumstances.
Look to the source. Who has created the conditions by which so many of our Citizens are markedly disadvantaged and disenfranchised? Who will then decide who qualifies for said assistance? How will you complete work requirements or increased work requirements when you have already qualified by being below the poverty line?
