Hauoli La Hanau e H.M. King Kamehameha IV Alexander Iolani Liholiho!
Healthcare Proponent, Cricketer, Diplomat & Polyglot. H.M. King Alekanetero Iolani Kalanikualiholiho Maka o Iouli Kunuiakea o Kukailimoku was born February 9th, 1834.
H.M. King Kamehameha IV was in many ways the very definition of perseverance and steadfastness. His Majesty began law school at the age of 15. At 16 he along with his brother H.R.H. Prince Lot and Foreign Minister Judd were sent on a diplomatic mission to Europe and the United States. The experiences would forever change his view of politics, social programs, and the nature of civil society. When his own legislature struck down his expanded healthcare plan for our citizens, he and his wife H.M. Queen Emma raised the funds themselves. Without those funds and hard work, Queens Medical Centre and all connected programs would not exist.
Our country and citizens deserve a calendar that celebrates our Nation and its diverse beauty. In 2019, we will be sharing many more significant dates that we hope will be representative of who we are as a Nation. If we miss something please forgive us as this is a work in progress!
